Pastor’s Letter – April 27, 2020

Dear Holy Trinity Members and Friends,

As you may recall, last Sunday I preached about the “road to Emmaus”, the fear and anxiety the disciples felt after the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ and how we too may feel anxious and fearful in this time of the Coronavirus pandemic.  These are natural emotions for us, but very draining both emotionally and physically!

It is time we leave the fear and anxiety behind as we embrace the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, the joy of knowing He lives . . . just as His disciples soon came to realize.  Let us stop looking horizontally but gaze vertically to our Creator God!

Do we live a life of blessing or complaint?  It is so easy to grumble and find fault.  It is easy to moan and groan about the difficulties of life, especially now.  It is true we live in a barren world that is not functioning as God intended.

The Bible does not see grumbling and complaining as something good.  In Deuteronomy 1, Moses recounts the grumbling of the Israelites.  It is easy to forget our daily blessings just as the Israelites had done.  Jesus went to the cross for you and me without grumbling or complaint and He rose from the dead so we can have eternal life.  This gift of the Resurrection is ours to receive.

I encourage you to continue your daily Bible reading and devotions remembering one another in prayer and communication.  “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth.”  (Psalm 119:103)  Share with one another the sweetness of the Word.

Soon we will be worshiping together.  I will inform you when that will be.  There are strict guidelines that we will need to follow.  In the meantime, our weekly worship will continue via social media.

I leave you with these words from an old and familiar hymn, “O God our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come, Our shelter from the stormy blast, And our eternal home.”  Amen!

Stay in the Word.
Your Pastor and Friend,
Pentti Maki
